The full name for ICU is known as the Intensive Care Unit. It is a division of a hospital which provides patientssuffering with an illness or accident that is severe with the most urgent medications and comprehensive treatment. Patients suffering from the most severe and dangerous illnessesor injuries which require continuous and constant surveillance by a team of nurses, specialists and doctors are taken care of in intensive care units. This unit is specially designed to treat patients who are severely ill or have been seriously injured. The ICU is often referred to as the CCU (Critical Care Unit) or ITU (Intensive Treatment Unit).

ICU is an abbreviation for Intensive Care Unit. ICU is the only department in the hospital that provides medical for intensive treatment and life-saving treatment to patients who suffer from serious injuries or disease. The departments that offer intensive care services take care of patients with patients suffering from the most severe and life-threatening injuries or illnesses that need constantand carefully watched by a specific team of doctors and nurses. The team is trained to care for critically injured or seriously ill patients. Patients are able to be transported directly to ICU after discharge of an emergency department in the event that they need it. This is usually done in cases where the condition of the patient is constantly declining.
